The Net's End

There is a very important topic that I feel NEEDS to be discussed… First to ask you a simple question: “What is a hacker?” As with most people you are probably thinking something along the lines of: ‘cyber-criminal’ , ‘phone phreak’ , ‘network cracker’ , or even something along the lines of cyber terrorist. However if you are part of the few that chose to say/think that a hacker is an cyber explorer, or a Network Philosopher, then obviously the media hasn’t effected your beliefs.

I personally don’t refer to myself as a hacker, but I am one who believes in thier misunderstood principles. One who has only learned that he knows nothing, while remaining persistent to question more. All I hope to do is to make the general public understand what it means to be a true hacker, and not some ‘script kiddie’ off the street who is labeled a hacker because he is arrested due to the fact that his friend gave him a cool program that he then used to access a bank corporation’s database. In truth that script kiddie is what puts the true hackers to shame as when most of them get caught from doing stupid things.

There is no better way to explain this then honoring The Mentor’s publication of “The Conscience of a Hacker” (Jan 8, 1986). The following is the manifesto as it was exactly written by him on the true reasoning behind hackers:
